The Tuddeyo Tusome project (Go back to school project)

Uganda had the longest school closure in the whole world due to the Covid19. Many girls in the schools got pregnant during the two-year lockdown. LUCOF has to assist these go back to school. Many students have faced violence and abuse during this lockdown. Some of them do not want to go back to school. Other students have resorted to odd jobs and have no hope of returning to school. LUCOF is convincing these students to come back to school. Other students have no logistics such as books, shoes, money for school uniform etc. due to All these factors discourage students to go back to school.

LUCOF begun a program ‘’Tuddeyo Tusome’’ which means ‘’Lets go back to school’’. The students that LUCOF supports are mainly of 3 categories:

  • Orphans who have lost their parents to HIV Aids
  • Young mothers who gave birth to a child at a very young age and LUCOF has helped them go back to school
  • Students who come from poor families and they want to continue with school

Schools supported by LUCOF have mastered a 95% return rate of students to schools because of this Tuddeyo Tusome program. The program entails the following:

  1. Registering all students in LUCOF-supported schools and closely monitoring what they are doing during the lockdown
  2. Engaging students in sports activities in order not to engage in illegal and risky activities
  3. Providing sponsorship to the poor students by giving them school items, uniforms, shoes, books etc so that nothing limits them to return to school
  4. Help renovate schools so that they are ready to receive students
  5. Help support teachers during and after lockdown with food, clothes, funds and training
