EDUCATION

LUCOF has many programmes which include;

LUCOF trains teachers through the national teachers trainer program. We do evaluation through child perfomance in class and researching the teacher’s development over a period of time.

LUCOF supports female education programmes, OVC school support, support of teachers and parents. We liase bursaries and scholarships for poor youth, as well as offering logistical support such as books, pens, uniforms, shoes, sanitary pads and transport means to rural poor children in Wakiso, Luweero and Nakaseke.

Through our i am a girl campaign, lucof child clubs, lucof peer clubs, lucof field team, we support poor children and poor youth in accessing education.

Sensitistion about the importance of education. We ensure that school dropouts go back to school, and all girls who have given birth and want to rejoin school get an opportunity.

Support to schools with renovations, water, building personnel, building materials, desks, chalk, paper, pens, build latrines, pits, organise seminars, etc.

Supporting and empowering teachers with bicycles, shoes, clothes, money, family logistics, morals, sensitisation seminars, etc.

Vocational training for the youth to acquire entrepreneurial skills and setting up small scale businesses to sustain themselves.

Adult Literacy

The program is designed to help adults to gain basic literacy skills in arithmetic, reading, writing, and conversational English. In addition, the students also receive basic computer training and instructions in business management, savings, and personal finance. These skills are so crucial in functioning effectively in today’s society. Currently we have many adult participants in the program in Wakiso, Luweero and Nakaseke districts.

Computer training: In this day and age, technology has become a key to development in economic, social, and academic arenas. In rural areas, computers are not accessible for many reasons: people are poor and cannot afford to buy home computers, other than in cities, in the rural areas there are no public computer centers; there are no trained personnel to provide these services.

Most of rural schools do not have computers accessible to students. If the school can afford this ‘luxury’, it will only afford one or two computers for the administration. It’s only a handful of schools in the rural areas that even have a computer for the administration. Computer skills are essential to acquiring a job; so students from rural schools cannot compete favorably in the job market without any computer skills. This raises the rate of unemployment and hinders the development of rural communities.

Internet: The computer center is now connected to the internet. It provides access to the worldwide web to the village — opening up opportunities for students, teachers and local residents to communicate electronically.

SPORTS

LUCOF organises sports activities for school children and the community youth, as well as other community sports activities. We organise football and netball tournaments, as well as marathons. Sports is very important in bringing people together to talk about health issues like HIV/AIDS, malaria, female reproduction, basic healthcare, other programmes like entrepreneurship, agriculture, education, children and women rights, etc.
