Integrated Agricultural practices project for Kiziba and Ngogolo communities in Luwero district.

LUCOF partnered with the Luwero district local government, Kikyuusa subcounty local government, private individuals, churches and Bukalasa agricu;tural college in this project that ran from late 2019 to April 2021. The target groups were female youth groups, young men youth groups and women groups.

The objectives of the project were

  • To introduce integrated agricultural practices to these communities including agro-forestry, poultry, vegetable farming and animal husbandry
  • To reduce poverty and increase household incomes for the targeted group
  • To reduce the negative effects of Covid 19 and the lock down
  • To improve the cooperation of local players such as NGOs, local government, private individuals and religious leaders

The project had direct impact on more than 1,200 youths and women plus more than 6,060 of their family members. In this project, about

  • 20,500 chickens were given out,
  • 160 pigs were given out,
  • 512 rabbits were given out,
  • 567 turkeys were given out
  • 8,100g of vegetable seeds given out,
  • 12,500 kilograms of bean seeds were given out
  • 467 hand hoes were given out
  • 30,000 kilograms of maize seeds were given out
  • 97,000 trees planted,
  • 60,000 coffee seedlings were given out
  • 2 field-based trips were done (these were limited by the lock down)
  • 3 water wells were dug to help in irrigation
  • 97 goats were given out to the youths of Ngogolo
  • 11 pig housing structures were constructed
  • 7 poultry houses were constructed
  • 6 rabbit housing structures were constructed

LUCOF and the local government are still assisting in the running of the project that has already proved to be a success
